The Upper West Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed shock over expired products donated by the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over the weekend to victims of flooding at Mangu, Kambali and Kumbiehi in the Wa Municipality and Wallembele in the Sissala East Municipality.
Addressing the media at a news conference in Wa the Upper West Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Prosper Puoire, said residents of the affected areas who had received the relief items realized that the items they were given had expired and unwholesome for human consumption.
Mr Puoire said the rice labelled as “Copac Jasmine long grain rice” are infested by weveels and magots whiles the cooking oil labelled as “obaapapa vegetable cooking oil” expired on August 28, 2018 without approval from the Food and Drugs Authority.
The Regional Communication Officer of the NDC noted that in the midst of the unpalatable happenings, the Upper West Regional Minister and his Deputy must explain to Ghanaians how they misled the the Vice President with disastrous intervention in the time of disaster.
He emphasized that the Regional NADMO Boss, Isaac Seidu, be relieved of his position as it is clear that his unwatchfulness is a threat of potential disaster to the people of the Upper West Region.
Mr, Puoire also indicated that the Vice President presented relief items in addition with five thousand Ghana Cedis to victims of floods in his home Northern Region and questioned whether some Ghanaians are more Ghanaian than others.
