UPPER WEST REGIONAL SECRETARIAT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(9TH May, 2019)
GRUESOME MURDER OF MR RICHARD BAYIVIELA PUOLABONG (NDC CONSTITUENCY CHAIRMAN FOR THE DAFFIAMA ISSA CONSTITUENCY)
The N. D. C in the Upper West Region is deeply appalled and very disgusted about the gruesome murder of our D. B. I Constituency Chairman Mr. Richard Bayiviela Puolabong.
The dastardly event took place yesterday 8th May, 2019 between 9:30pm to 10:00pm around Sagu, about 5km outside the Wa Township.
Our late chairman is reported to have been returning from a funeral in his constituency in the company of four other constituency executives.
The narrative as presented by eye witnesses points to the fact that the vehicle on which they were travelling was stopped by two men flashing torch lights. They mis-interpreted the scenario to be that of a police check point.
They stopped only to realise that unidentified gun me emerged from the bush. Realising they were police, the driver of the vehicle attempted speeding off. The gun wielding men fired into the vehicle killing our chairman instantly while injuring the driver.
The body of our late chairman is deposited at the Upper West Regional Hospital Mortuary whilst the driver is responding to treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital.
With Very heavy hearts, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the widow, children and immediate family of the late chairman Richard.
We equally extend our condolence to the entire NDC family in the Upper West Region and much particularly to the Diffiama Bussie Issa branch of the NDC. It is our fervent prayer that the God of compassion grant his soul a peaceful repose.
Whilst we mourn this immeasurable lost with heavy hearts, we wish to bemoan the very deplorable security situation of our country at large and the Upper West Region in the particular.
It is heart breaking that, at this moment the citizens of our country are being subjected to unnecessary excruciating cost of living our security issues have become abysmal. Whilst our citizens are scrambling under unprecedented fear and want, government and its functionaries look on helplessly.
For over a year and some few months now, the Upper West Region has been the scene of unmitigated criminal activities.
Whilst we acknowledge and appreciate the steps been taken by the police in the region to fight the menace, we call out desperately to the police to pursue these cases with all their vigour and bring the perpetrators of such crimes to book. We also call on government to resource the police adequately to enable the carry out their mandate.
We wish to cease this opportunity to call on the top CID hierarchy of the police service to immediately channel all their intelligence and resources to apprehend all criminals who go around committing such atrocities and holding the citizens under siege.
We call on the family, rank and file of the NDC in the region to remain calm whilst we trust the competences and professionalism of the police service to apprehend the perpetrators of this crime.
We call on the government of the day to rise to the task of guaranteeing the peace of this country and the security of its citizens. We call for special attention to address the appalling security situation in the Upper West.
May the soul of our fallen hero and the souls of murdered in such circumstances rest in the peace of the Lord.
